Double Joy-A Double Brit
Every time a Puah counselor is invited to a brit or celebration of the birth of a girl by one of his couples, it is a special occasion. All the more so when it is a brit of twin boys. One of Puah's counselors recently attended such a brit. Mike and Julie (names have been changed) both grew up in non-religious homes and discovered Orthodox Judaism later in life. They found each other and married a little later in life as well. Realizing that their view of being a Jew meant living in Israel, they left behind successful careers and family to live in Jerusalem. At first, they were too happy and busy to be concerned that they had no children. Yet before long, it began to bother them that they were not getting pregnant and it eventually became a serious concern. The language barrier compounded the problem; they simply could not understand what their doctor was saying to them. Their dream of living in Israel was quickly becoming a nightmare. Then they discovered Puah. The rabbinical counselor received them warmly and immediately made them feel comfortable. Even better from their perspective, was that he spoke their language and was able to quickly refer them to a doctor who did as well. Yet this was not the end of their journey. They repeated treatment cycles over and over and even different methods of treatment, all to no avail. They were ready to give up, but their Puah counselors gave them support, advice and, most importantly, hope for the future. Eventually they tried another round of treatment which was successful; they were pregnant with not one, but two children! The pregnancy presented its own challenges, which they overcame with the support of their Puah counselor, by now a close friend. Finally, their twin miracles arrived. Their trials and tribulations seemed part of a different life as they gathered with a huge crowd of family and friends to celebrate the double brit of their healthy and beautiful twin boys. Mazal Tov to them and to all Puah couples who have given birth this past year!
